Glooko Nutrition Logging Rate Thrives with Nutritionix Nutrition Database

Nutrition

Glooko is a leading global digital health platform that empowers individuals with diabetes to manage their health more effectively. It integrates data from a wide range of health devices, including glucose meters, insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), fitness trackers, and health apps—providing users with up-to-date information and personalized insights.

Deployed in over 30 countries and 10,000+ clinical locations, Glooko’s goal is to transform diabetes care by connecting people living with diabetes and their healthcare providers— equipping them with timely, actionable information to inform care. This information has the potential to enable improved outcomes, increase access, improve satisfaction, and reduce healthcare costs.

Nutrition Database

Managing food and nutrition is crucial for people with diabetes, but historically people had to rely on inefficient manual tracking methods that often provided incomplete or inaccurate nutritional information to both patients and healthcare providers. Recognizing these challenges, Glooko developed a tracking feature that combines user-friendly meal logging with reliable nutritional information to empower users to make more informed decisions about their diet and better manage their health condition.

Since using the Nutritionix Nutrition Database, a Syndigo Nutrition & Wellness solution,  Glooko has seen a significant improvement in customer engagement with their logging feature, including:

  • Increased food logging frequency
  • Expanded global food logging
  • Customer praise of food variety
  • Increased user engagement time with the app

Overcoming the Complexities of Food Tracking

The company sought to develop a comprehensive solution that would streamline meal tracking while providing reliable nutritional data. With an expanding global presence, Glooko also needed a platform capable of supporting multiple languages and diverse regional food databases to serve its international user base effectively.

When searching for a robust food database, the Nutritionix Nutrition Database stood out as the best fit to ensure we met our objectives when it came to food logging. We needed more than just a robust tool. We required a partner capable of delivering highly accurate, localized nutritional data with multi-language support to meet the diverse needs of our global users. Nutritionix exceeded our expectations, significantly enhancing user engagement and empowering our customers with precise, relevant nutritional insights tailored specifically to their needs. With Nutritionix, we’ve seen significant improvements in food logging frequency, greater international adoption, increased app engagement, and enthusiastic customer feedback about the variety and accuracy of the nutritional information provided.

Cameron Trotter
Director of Product Marketing at Glooko

Modernizing Nutrition Data Tracking

After extensive evaluation, Glooko selected the Nutritionix Nutrition Database based on its distinction as the world’s largest dietitian-verified database. It serves as the nutritional “source of truth” for a vast array of restaurant items and common store-bought foods, ensuring that the data aligns with industry standards. The level of diligence in verifying the accuracy of the database gave them the confidence they needed in a reliable partner.

They were also impressed with Nutritionix’s focus on making food logging simple and intuitive, which was crucial because tracking meals is often one of the biggest hurdles for people with diabetes. Their Natural Language Processing feature allows users to log meals just by speaking into the app. Then the database intelligently parses the input and provides a detailed, itemized breakdown of the meal. Additionally, the barcode scanning feature enables users to instantly access nutritional information simply by scanning a product’s barcode, making the logging process quick and effortless.

Positive Consumer Engagement Impact

The successful integration with the Nutritionix Nutrition Database has transformed how users interact with their food logging capabilities. This strategic partnership has enhanced Glooko’s ability to provide comprehensive nutritional tracking while simplifying the user experience for diabetes management worldwide. They have seen significant improvements in two key areas:

1. Increased food logging frequency: One of their main goals was to encourage users to log their meals more consistently, and thanks to the ease of adding foods and the comprehensive nature of the database they’ve seen a noticeable increase in the number of food items logged per user. The seamless meal entry process, combined with the accuracy of the nutritional information provided, has made it much easier for users to engage with the platform regularly.

2. Expanded global food logging: With Nutritionix’s ability to support multiple languages and provide localized food options, they’ve also observed a rise in the number of users logging foods in regions where Glooko has recently expanded. This has allowed them to better serve their global user base by offering nutritional insights tailored to customers’ local cuisine and language, driving higher engagement and satisfaction in new markets.

Nutrition Data Tracking

Praise from Customers and Health Providers

One of the biggest drivers of positive app store reviews has been users praising their robust food database since using the Nutritionix Nutrition Database.

While food logging is just one of many features Glooko offers, it stands out as the one that both patients and providers frequently highlight for its ease of use and accuracy. The quality of their food logging experience plays a key role in not only retaining existing users but also attracting new ones, as it provides a tangible value that sets them apart from other platforms.

Nutritionix and Health Management Advantages

Glooko

Glooko’s primary goal is to provide users with a reliable, high-quality food database that empowers them to make informed decisions about their nutrition and, ultimately, their treatment.  By offering accurate nutritional information, users can better understand how their food choices impact their condition, allowing them to manage their health more effectively. Nutritionix plays a crucial role in helping them achieve this by offering a comprehensive, dietitian-verified database that users can trust. Its ease of use and robust data ensure that users have access to the right information at the right time to support their health decisions.

Moving Forward: Food Analytics Innovation

Glooko plans to expand beyond basic nutrition tracking with advanced food analysis tools and personalized nutrition insights to provide real-time feedback on how specific food choices impact personal health, especially with diabetes management. With the Nutritionix database as its foundation, they want to further personalize nutrition insights, enabling users to understand the direct effects of their food choices on their condition. This data-driven approach will empower patients to make timely, smarter, and more informed decisions about their health.

Culinary Depot

Culinary Depot has established itself as a premier commercial kitchen equipment supplier since 1999. They specialize in building, renovating, and servicing commercial kitchens for diverse institutions including hospitals, schools, hotels, and restaurants. As a full-service food service equipment partner, they excel in delivering comprehensive kitchen solutions from initial concept to final implementation, ensuring projects are completed on budget, on target, and on time.

Their significant growth started to strain their website processes and increased the challenge of effectively managing their product data. They quickly realized that a Product Information Management (PIM) solution was needed to address these growing pains and selected Syndigo PIM.

Some of the benefits realized by using the solution include:

  • Quick startup out of the box without a time-consuming, complex implementation.
  • Automated bulk processing with precise and secure transfer of large product datasets.
  • A 95% improvement in product data cleanliness and quality.
Culinary Depot

Data Growth Challenges Reach a Boiling Point

Culinary Depot’s rapid expansion from 30 in-office employees to over 150 staff members across multiple continents created significant operational challenges. The company struggled with inefficient product data management processes that heavily relied on Excel spreadsheets, leading to frequent accuracy issues and time-consuming manual effort.  Additionally, their rapid expansion into new markets along with a growing product catalog created increasingly complex supply chain and data management issues that made it more difficult to accurately track critical information about their products.

The absence of a centralized PIM system impacted their ability to scale operations, while their website processes struggled to keep pace with their growth trajectory. These challenges made it clear that a PIM solution was necessary to maintain a competitive edge while continuing to provide excellent customer service.

Culinary Depot Fires Up Its Data Management with Syndigo PIM

After careful evaluation, Culinary Depot selected Syndigo PIM. They were impressed with its comprehensive feature set, backed by a professional and knowledgeable implementation team and expert support. Scalability also provided confidence in its ability to support continued growth. The data management tools for handling large product catalogs sealed their decision, making Syndigo the clear choice for meeting their data management needs now and in the future.

When looking into software options we were impressed with Syndigo’s many capabilities and their professional and helpful staff. We were also confident that Syndigo would be able to help us scale as we continue to grow.

A Recipe for Operational Excellence

Syndigo PIM delivered many advantages to Culinary Depot’s operations. The out of the box BigCommerce connector enabled single-click integration capabilities. This plug-and-play functionality eliminated the need for a complex implementation, allowing for rapid deployment that accelerated their time-to-value.

The automated batch processing capabilities transformed their data management processes, enabling the safe and accurate handling of large volumes of product data in less time. They also achieved an impressive 95% improvement in data cleanliness and quality.

Operational efficiency saw dramatic improvements. Time previously spent on manual data entry was significantly reduced, allowing staff to focus on more strategic tasks. The improved accuracy in product information reduced errors and rework, enhanced team productivity, and streamlined workflow processes.

Additionally, the online shopping experience for customers significantly improved, making it more pleasant and efficient.

Sizzling Success

Culinary Depot’s selection of Syndigo PIM addressed their critical data management challenges, providing a solid foundation to support the company’s continued growth. The solution not only resolved their immediate data issues, but also delivered a scalable platform to power future expansion. The successful transition from manual to automated processes, coupled with superior data quality and accuracy, has advanced their operational success.

The partnership between Culinary Depot and Syndigo demonstrates how the right PIM solution can transform business operations and create lasting value for both the organization and its customers.

Girlactik, the beauty brand that has been making waves with its innovative makeup products, faced a challenge: navigating the digital landscape and managing retail distribution effectively.

The Beauty Blunder

Before their partnership with Syndigo, Girlactik was in a bit of a beauty blunder. Dominick Briguglio, Principal Consulting Officer at Girlactik shared, “My main job is to handle brand and retail distribution and development, with a side of inventory management. Juggling all this without a streamlined process was a nightmare.”

Girlactik

Syndigo to the Rescue

Enter Syndigo, offering Syndication capabilities and Enhanced Content to not only simplify the content distribution process but also optimize Product Detail Pages, making them significantly more engaging.

“Syndigo made everything so simple–your support team jumped in, formatted all the copy, and activated it without me lifting a finger. And it was affordable, which is a big deal for a start-up like us,” said Briguglio.

With Syndigo Enhanced Content, Girlactik was empowered to create captivating product pages that resonated deeply with their audience. “For small brands like ours, having a partner like Syndigo to deliver Enhanced Content is crucial for growth,” Briguglio added.

This collaboration didn’t just simplify content delivery for Girlactic; it amplified customer engagement and skyrocketed conversion rates.

Enhancing Digital Presence: The Every Man Jack Journey with Syndigo

Every Man Jack

Every Man Jack has emerged as a leader in men’s grooming by committing to natural ingredients and eco-friendly practices.  In order to maintain and scale their success, they needed innovative solutions to overcome and adapt to the mercurial digital marketplace.

Enhanced Content

Challenges Before Syndigo

Before partnering with Syndigo, Every Man Jack faced significant hurdles in adapting to the fast-paced changes of e-commerce. Eric Pascual, Digital Content Manager at Every Man Jack, identified a critical gap in their Product Information Management (PIM) system that made it difficult to distribute content to key retailers effectively. This limitation hindered their ability to meet the go-live deadlines and manage product data efficiently.

Additionally, Eric Pascual and the Omni team face the challenge of ensuring that all content is distributed to each retailer in full compliance with each unique set requirements and regulations for content at every endpoint.

“I’ve seen all the rules and requirements that retailers keep rolling out to brands and manufacturers, and it has made it hard to scale and keep up with these requirements without the right technology, “said Eric Pascual.

Product Information Management

Transformation with Syndigo

The partnership with Syndigo marked a turning point.

“The integration with Syndigo was seamless and transformative, enhancing our digital footprint significantly,” said Eric Pascual. Syndigo filled the Product Information Management (PIM) gap by providing Every Man Jack access to a Marketplace Network and Grocery Panel retail coverage, which allowed immediate content distribution to crucial grocery retailers. This integration streamlined their processes by consolidating all content management into a single, user-friendly platform. Syndigo’s robust system did the heavy lifting, ensuring consistent, high-quality content across all channels. This not only enhanced their reach within the industry but also significantly reduced manual effort, allowing the team to focus on strategic initiatives and growth.

Syndigo’s solutions brought several eye-catching improvements:

  • Content Enhancement: Syndigo’s Enhanced Content allowed for richer, more detailed product descriptions and high-quality images, which significantly improved user engagement and product visibility.
Enhanced Content
  • Insightful Analytics: Syndigo provided powerful analytics on important metrics like views, time on page, click on rate, etc., that helped Every Man Jack understand customer behaviors and preferences, leading to more targeted and effective marketing strategies.
  • Expanded Reach: Through Syndigo’s extensive network, Every Man Jack could reach a broader audience, increasing their market penetration, brand awareness and fostering a healthy relationship with retailers.
  • Exceptional Customer Support: The Syndigo support team played a crucial role in ensuring a smooth transition and continuous improvement.  “The support team at Syndigo deserves a special mention,” said Eric Pascual “They were prompt, professional, and incredibly helpful. Whether it was troubleshooting an issue or providing additional training, they have consistently gone above and beyond to help us.”
Every Man Jack

Future Initiatives and Continued Partnership

Looking forward, Every Man Jack is excited about the potential for further growth and innovation in partnership with Syndigo. “There’s a ton of technology out there like Syndigo, which helps contribute to our digital initiative and staying up to date with all the latest trends and consumer insight to gain a competitive edge on the market,” said Eric Pascual.

How do you get a better BODi? A healthy lifestyle and a dash of Syndigo PIM

BODi

Summary

BODi provides a comprehensive approach toward health for people who want to transform their lives by providing a solution that combines fitness, nutrition, and support.

Dealing with an end-of-life PIM solution

BODi was worried that they were falling behind their own expectations regarding their digital transformation journey. BODi, the most comprehensive health and fitness platform in the market, was reliant on Product Information Management (PIM) as a cornerstone for all their commercial operations, everything from managing product information to the commercialization of new products. However, their legacy PIM system was in an end-of-life state. In addition, flat-file integrations with multiple failure points were a major source of risk originating in their current solution. It was clear that they needed an alternative that called for a broader approach to PIM and MDM. BODi’s unique offerings made it necessary to find a PIM that went beyond traditional PIM capabilities to one that could model both physical products and intangible (digital/service) products and solutions and more importantly, bundle them together. They needed a modern MDM that is capable of cutting across data silos and presenting a single source of truth. But most importantly they needed a single unified platform that meets all their data management and commercial enablement needs.

BODi

With Syndigo’s future-ready solutions, BODi is preparing to maximize the potential of its product data and stand out in the space of personal fitness and health.

BODi is ready to optimize its MDM capabilities to make their operations more efficient with a view to increasing their bottom-line profits.

An alternative with more upside

Enter Syndigo.

As BODi was looking for alternatives to their problems, they considered Syndigo along with several other tier 1 players in the market. Syndigo stood out because of the value proposition they offered in combination with a rich feature set that addressed BODi’s broad and unique requirements mentioned above. Specifically, Syndigo seemed to have found the sweet spot between combining traditional MDM capabilities and modern PIM features resulting in the best of both worlds. Syndigo’s history and experience with delivering transformative capabilities through its PIM offering was the final piece of the puzzle. In particular, Syndigo’s extensive alliance network, exemplified by their partnership with Object Edge in delivering success, convinced BODi to engage with Syndigo.

A change for a better BODi

Armed with Syndigo’s technology and Object Edge’s expertise, BODi embarked on a transformative journey, driven by a vision of the future where BODi would thrive in the digital age.

  • Leveraging New Features: Syndigo’s out-of-the-box features and workflows became BODi’s tools of transformation, empowering them to replace their manual and offline data management and enrichment processes with online real-time processing, and lay the groundwork for a seamless transition.
  • Implementing Fault-Tolerant Integrations: With the benefits of Syndigo’s platform, BODi took on integrating downstream systems and minimizing latency and failure points to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.
  • Future-proof Solutions: BODi overhauled existing models and embraced digitalization while ensuring compatibility with legacy systems to prepare BODi for the challenges of tomorrow.
  • Easier Maintenance: Syndigo also helped BODi design onboarding and maintenance processes, laying the groundwork for supporting future needs in e-commerce and order management.

Dreams of a brighter future

Looking ahead, BODi is excited about centralizing their product data management on a SaaS platform giving them significant flexibility in their future plans. Syndigo’s MDM capabilities also established a single source of truth for all downstream systems, in particular, their e-commerce endeavors. Workflow controls established during implementation will go a long way to giving the users of the solution more control and reducing errors. The resulting jump in data quality is expected to boost the experience of shoppers and improve shopping conversion rates. In collaboration with Syndigo’s solution BODi is looking forward to a faster new product introduction (NPI) cycle.

Furthermore, BODi is ready to optimize its MDM capabilities to make their operations more efficient with a view to increasing their bottom-line profits. This initiative will encompass streamlining workflows, enhancing collaboration between teams, and expediting product launches, ultimately driving increased agility and competitiveness in the market. By harnessing Syndigo’s ‘Reference’ data capabilities, BODi aims to provide fully indented BOM visualizations across all business functions, from Operations to Sales and Marketing. This comprehensive insight will enable informed decision-making and foster alignment throughout the organization. Additionally, the establishment of a data governance council will ensure ongoing refinement of data quality and enrichment processes, further enhancing the effectiveness and reliability of integrated systems across the enterprise.

Syndigo PIM: A recipe for success

The partnership with Syndigo is poised to bring in a new era of commercial success at BODi. With Syndigo’s future-ready solutions, BODi is preparing to maximize the potential of its product data and stand out in the space of personal fitness and health. DR.SCHNELL

About DR.SCHNELL

DR.SCHNELL is a leading manufacturer of high-quality professional cleaning products used in various sectors such as building cleaning, gastronomy, textile hygiene, hospitality, healthcare, transportation, and industrial operations. The Munich-based traditional company, now in its seventh generation, employs almost 500 people throughout the DR.SCHNELL Group and is operating across Europe.

The successful deployment of Syndigo’s syndication solution at DR.SCHNELL was enabled by several key factors:

  • Dedicated Data Integration Team: The core team from Syndigo played a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and effective integration process.
  • Agile Methodology: An agile approach allowed for quick adjustments and improvements, ensuring the project stayed on track.
  • Regular Status Meetings: Frequent updates ensured that all parties were informed and coordinated throughout the implementation.
  • Prompt Feedback: Quick responses to issues allowed for immediate resolution and minimized disruptions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Ongoing development of the Syndigo application ensured that the solution remained of high quality and effectiveness.
About DR.SCHNELL

The Path to Clean Data

Before the implementation of Syndigo, DR.SCHNELL faced significant challenges in maintaining and distributing its item data to various customers. The process was predominantly manual, error-prone, and not scalable. The time required to maintain the various data pools was substantial or sometimes no longer feasible, and the number of available data fields was limited. Therefore, providing up-to-date data could no longer be guaranteed. Additionally, there were a variety of different exchange formats for the item master data, depending on customer requirements. All these factors ultimately affected operational efficiency of the family business.

By implementing an API interface from Syndigo, DR.SCHNELL was able to effectively address these challenges. The integration of the API interface allows for automated and continuous data synchronization of the product master data, which can now be easily transmitted to various partners and platforms.

DR.SCHNELL chose Syndigo because of the powerful and flexible API interface. The ability to transfer data directly from the existing PIM system to the Syndigo platform and from there to publish to the entire GDSN market was a decisive advantage.

The support during the implementation by the experienced Syndigo team ensured that all processes ran smoothly and efficiently. Immediate validation of GS1 rules allows data to be published without delay and infinitely scalable.

The company is now able to enter new markets by meeting global standards. Scalability and efficiency have thus been significantly improved. With Syndigo’s syndication solution, the DR.SCHNELL team now has a new efficient approach to optimizing the syndication of its product data.

data management

Clean Product Data is the Key to Success

DR.SCHNELL has successfully mastered its challenges in the area of product data management in Germany by implementing the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) in partnership with Syndigo.

The project focused on aligning product data with GDSN standards and German regulations and included over 700 attributes. A key component was the use of a GDSN data pool, which centralized and automated data exchange, thus ensuring accurate synchronization. The technical team of the Munich-based family business received specialized API training for effective data mapping and integration.

After thorough testing, the system went live and syndicated over 1,000 products – including to the German retailer EDEKA. The successful implementation improved data accuracy, shortened time-to-market, and strengthened relationships with trade partners. The project transformed DR.SCHNELL’s data management and positions it for future growth and potential market expansion.

Julia Eberlein

With Syndigo, we have found a reliable and strong partner with whom we can publish our entire item master data at the push of a button in GDSN.

With the modern API interface, we can release daily changes to the master data pool automatically without manual effort. The validation rules additionally help us to bring our item master data to a new level of quality. This also supports the Dr. Schnell vision of quality and service for our customers and trade partners in all economic sectors. Our efforts have resulted in a 40% reduction in the time and labor required for data maintenance, empowering us to deliver higher quality and service efficiency.

The Results are Brilliant

Through the collaboration with Syndigo, DR.SCHNELL was able to achieve several important goals:

  • Timely data provision: Product master data is now available daily.
  • Reduced manual effort: The time and labor required for data maintenance has been reduced by 40%.
  • Improved data quality: The global quality of the master data has been significantly increased.
  • Immediate error detection: Errors are now immediately detected thanks to the validation rules and can be corrected promptly. The Syndigo Dashboard is a helpful tool in this regard.

This led to improved operational efficiency, reduced error rates, and faster time-to-market for their products. Syndigo’s cloud-native platform supports manufacturers, brands, and trade by enabling the continuous flow of data and content throughout the entire trade ecosystem with an end-to-end solution for MDM, PIM, PXM, Syndication, and Digital Shelf Analytics.

The optimized processes have not only strengthened DR.SCHNELL’s internal capabilities but have also enabled the company to confidently expand into new markets.

Coop Norge and Advellence Streamline Data Processes and Improve Data Quality with Syndigo MDM as Foundational Platform

Coop

Coop Norge, one of Norway’s biggest stores, has made a big step toward improving their data processes and quality. Coop Norge has successfully leveraged the Syndigo platform as their full MDM-first backbone which has been implemented by Advellence.

Founded in 1906, Coop Norge has grown from a small cooperative society to a leading retail cooperative with over 2 million members and a network of 1,227 stores across Norway. Their mission is to provide high-quality products at competitive prices while promoting sustainable practices and social responsibility. This vision aligns with their core values of cooperation, trust, and sustainability, which drive their long-term strategy and operational excellence.

2+

Coop’s Grocery Retail business is vast, with many different chain names. This presented several challenges in their data management processes: The need for a more flexible and strong system to handle future changes — like environmental, social, governmental (ESG) like the decision for the Digital Product Passport (DPP) — was important. Also, their legacy systems were becoming outdated, causing inconsistent data quality from external sources that took significant time and effort to correct.

Grocery Retail

Coop Grocery

To overcome these challenges, Advellence implemented Syndigo as full Master Data Management (MDM) for Coop Norge. The initial scope was to migrate from SAP Master Data Governance. Coop Norge can now create both buy and sell views in their Syndigo MDM, seamlessly streamlining the flow of data from data pools and data onboarding to syndication to downstream systems.

The implementation of Syndigo’s MDM solution has brought multiple benefits to Coop Norge. Syndigo’s comprehensive multi-domain solution has played a significant role in Coop Norge’s sustainable digitization strategy, and Syndigo made a significant contribution to Coop Norge’s development.

Coop was able to achieve:

  • Effortless loading and management of over 163,000 articles in this phase.
  • Setup of both a buy view and a sell view in the MDM platform.
  • Integration with multiple master data sources across categories including Food/Grocery, Do it yourself (DIY)/Construction, Sport, and others.
  • Rapid data enrichment processing speeds that reduced manual work from a full day to just one hour.

SUCCESS STORY

PAUL Tech’s AI Technology Turns Buildings Green with Syndigo MDM

PAUL Tech

As an energy innovator, PAUL Tech AG (PAUL) develops advanced technologies and solutions that not only reduce CO₂ emissions but also increase the value of properties across diverse sectors. Their ambitious mission is to lower energy consumption and harmful carbon emissions to help properties achieve CO₂ neutrality simply, quickly, and affordably. By digitalizing central building systems with intelligent hardware and harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to optimize and automate volume flows, PAUL delivers remarkable energy and CO₂ savings. Their expertise spans a wide range of asset classes, from care facilities, hotels, and offices to residential buildings, retail spaces, and even maritime applications such as ships across Europe, Asia, and the US.

PAUL Tech AG

During the early business phase, PAUL recognized the importance of implementing a comprehensive data management strategy early in its journey to support expected growth. Their technology relies on capturing and processing millions of data points, necessitating a robust infrastructure. To maintain high data quality standards and ensure seamless integration across their internal systems, PAUL determined that adopting a Master Data Management (MDM) solution was crucial for their operations. This foresight in data strategy has positioned them to efficiently manage their complex data requirements.

They have realized several benefits from using Syndigo MDM, including:

  • Scalability for global data management growth.
  • Easy expansion of the master data model to reflect changing business needs.
  • Significant cost savings in data maintenance.
  • Automation for improved data accuracy.
  • Significantly more efficient processes based on contextual data.

With our product, we make buildings energy-efficient and thus ESG-compliant. The focus of our business model is driven by sustainability. We want to make a decisive contribution to ensuring that our customers can operate buildings in a CO₂-neutral manner.

Building a Data Management Foundation

When PAUL set out to revolutionize energy efficiency for the real estate industry, they encountered a significant data management challenge. Their business model required the ability to collect, process, and derive value from vast amounts of data across numerous real estate properties worldwide. This was not merely about storing information but creating a dynamic, scalable system that could transform raw data into actionable insights, support rapid global expansion, and facilitate a fully digital customer experience. To achieve this, they needed an MDM system capable of addressing critical challenges, including:

  • Scalability for Global Expansion: From the outset, PAUL had ambitious growth plans. They required a system that could scale from handling data for 100 customers to potentially thousands across multiple countries.
  • Data Volume and Variety: They faced the challenge of handling around 1.7 trillion measurements per year of data from diverse sources that added up to millions of data points. This includes readings from sensors and actuators in properties across multiple countries, ranging from residential units to large commercial buildings and even cruise ships.
  • Supporting E-commerce Processes: Their vision included a full e-commerce process where the first touchpoint is digital and the implementation, meaning the service provision, is also digital. The data management system had to support this end-to-end digital approach.
Enhanced Content
  • Granular Device Tracking: The system needed to be able to track data at an individual device level. Each sensor, actuator, and piece of equipment required a unique identifier and association with specific properties and customers.
  • Data Contextualization: Raw measurement data alone wasn’t sufficient. They sought to link this data with property information to make it truly valuable. Only through the contextualization of the measurement data with the customer building information does it become valuable.
  • Data Quality and Enrichment: Initial data presented opportunities for improvement in completeness and accuracy. They wanted an MDM to support data verification, enrichment, and cleaning processes.
  • Real-time Data Access: Various teams, from sales to maintenance, necessitated immediate access to up-to-date information about customers and their properties. Real-time alerting in the event of faults was also a challenge.
  • Compliance & Regulations: Maintaining compliance with constantly changing global regulations was essential to record and track.

These challenges required a scalable and flexible MDM solution that could support its ambitious business operations.

PAUL’s AI-Innovation for Building Sustainability

PAUL’s AI-driven solution addresses the inefficiencies of heating systems by capturing and reusing energy that would otherwise be lost during transport, significantly enhancing building energy efficiency. The most crucial use of their artificial intelligence is the control of their systems. For example, the measurements they take result in actions such as opening and closing valves, turning heaters on and off, and more. While these tasks can be performed manually or with control algorithms, they specifically use artificial intelligence to manage them.

My team is probably tired of hearing me say that we need to improve our master data quality, but data quality is essential. Artificial intelligence doesn’t work without well-contextualized data. The master data has to be perfect, and automation is essential to reach that goal.

Syndigo MDM

Growing with Syndigo MDM

PAUL’s vision was clear from the very beginning: the entire process, from the first digital touchpoint to the final implementation, had to be supported by accurate and timely data. Syndigo’s cloud-native MDM met these requirements and more with its scalability and adaptability. With support from Syndigo’s partner Advellence, PAUL’s unique MDM needs were customized to align with their specific business and operational goals. Their data management operations now benefit from these advantages:

Complex Data Management at Scale

The system efficiently handles millions of data points recorded from a wide array of sensors and actuators in their customers’ properties. These are connected with the master data to transform them into actionable insights. Their customers typically own numerous properties—sometimes hundreds or even thousands of residential units—that all need to be accurately classified and recorded. The Syndigo system enables them to manage this complex web of data efficiently.

Improved Customer Maintenance Operations

The MDM system also plays a vital role internally, supporting not only sales but also maintenance operations. Their Control Board can access property data in real-time, allowing immediate response to issues like heating system failures or valve malfunctions. This seamless integration across various systems—from CRM to ERP—highlights Syndigo’s versatility and importance as the backbone of its operations.

Syndigo Master Data

To understand which property a particular measured value belongs to and where it was recorded, the data has to be contextualized with the master data from the MDM system. This key functionality is indispensable for our operations and ultimately influenced our selection of Syndigo MDM.

CTO at PAUL Tech AG

Superior Data Quality for Field Services and Sales Teams

For their field service and direct sales teams, the MDM system is invaluable. While the initial data arrived in various formats, the system ensured comprehensive data processing, qualification, and enrichment, starting from on-site inspections. Technicians recorded precise data using a custom app, feeding it directly into Syndigo. This enriched data is then accessible to sales representatives, providing detailed insights into each property, including the number of residential units, insulation details, and heating installations.

Unmatched Data Model Flexibility

PAUL values the flexibility of Syndigo’s master data model. For example, when they needed to add heat pumps to their data model they were able to complete it within a week, demonstrating the system’s flexibility and responsiveness.

Thomas Eusterholz

We use Syndigo MDM as a complete digital twin of our customers. With the measured values in it, we know our customers better today than the customers know themselves.
